Meet the dedicated individuals who guide and drive our mission to make tennis accessible to all. Our Board of Directors provide strategic vision, while our passionate staff works daily to bring our programs to life. Together, our board and staff are committed to fostering a love for tennis and creating a lasting positive impact in our community.
Board of Directors

Louise Gengler Thomas
PRESIDENT
Louise served as the Head Coach of Women’s Tennis at Princeton University for 25 years. She has served on several boards including the Princeton Tennis Program (PTP), one of the country’s most successful not-for-profit community-based tennis associations, and for 22 years she served on the Board of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Louise has received national recognition for her contributions to the community and to the growth of women’s collegiate tennis. She is a recipient of the Educational Merit Award presented by the International Tennis Hall of Fame and the ITA Meritorious Service Award. She was inducted into USTA Middle States Hall of Fame and the Mercer County Tennis Hall of Fame.
As a player Louise competed as a nationally ranked Junior, captained the Princeton University women’s tennis team, and with her sister Margie Gengler Smith, achieved a #7 national ranking in USTA Women’s Doubles.

Jeff DeCaro
VICE PRESIDENT
Mr. DeCaro is also deeply committed to his community, where he served as the President of the Shipley’s Choice Homeowners Association for eight years, a member of the Executive Committee of the University of Maryland Law School Alumni Association, Soccer Commissioner of the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association, a member of GSPAA Board of Directors, and has been a Board member of the Tennis Alliance of Anne Arundel County since its inception in 2013. He is currently the President of the Trumbull Estates Home Association and has served in that capacity since 2015.
For the past twenty years, he has served as the Commissioner of the Prince George’s County Bar Association Softball and Basketball Leagues and has raised more than $30,000 for the benefit of the Carol Jean Cancer Foundation, Inc. and The Children’s Inn at NIH during the Association’s annual softball tournaments.
Born in San Francisco, California, he spent most of his childhood in Maryland and attended the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, cum laude, in 1977 with a B.A. in Political Science, he entered the University of Maryland School of Law. He obtained his juris doctorate in 1980 and entered private practice.

Kim Walko
SECRETARY
Kim has worked in the Electrical Industry for 21 years. She began with Lutron Electronics, a world-wide leader in innovative lighting control as the Residential Customer Service Supervisor. For the past 17 years, she has worked for their Manufacturers Representatives Agency here in
Maryland.
She was a Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity chapter President and the Assistant Mentor Program Director with the West Side Youth Organization. She served as a Girl Scout Troop leader, as well as the Area Cookie Manager, managing cookie orders for 30+ troops in the
Pasadena and Glen Burnie area. As an adult scout, she was awarded the Thanks Badge, the highest honor in Girl Scouts recognizing a registered adult for their ongoing commitment, leadership and service. Kim is an avid tennis player serving as captain for various teams. She also loves running, the outdoors and traveling. She has a BS in Business with a concentration in Human Resources from University of North Carolina- Greensboro.

Sharon Wood
TREASURER
Sharon Wood is retired and most recently served as the Vice President, Head of Investor Relations, for Independence Capital Partners (Lubert-Adler Management, Inc.)
She was responsible for Investor Relations and accurate information flow required by investors in five real estate funds and various funds including but not limited to biotech, mezzanine debt and distressed debt. Sharon set up processes to coordinate performance reporting between all funds and investors and served as Compliance officer.
Sharon is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (1992) and a Maryland Real Estate Sales Associate (1981). She has an MBA and Master of Science from Johns Hopkins University and Bachelors of Science in both Finance and Accounting from the University of Baltimore.
Sharon has considerable nonprofit Board experience having served on the Boards of Central Maryland Lhasa Apso Fanciers, Olde Severna Park Improvement Association (Treasurer), and Career Real Estate Woman (CREW)- Public Affairs.

Michele Archibald
HONORARY BOARD MEMBER
Michele is one of the three founding members of the Tennis Alliance along with Peggy Sange and Louise Thomas. She has a long history of tennis leadership in Anne Arundel County including serving as captain of USTA League teams and serving as President of AACTA. Michele is a chemistry graduate of James Madison University. She lives in Hilton Head and remains in touch with her many tennis friends and connections in Anne Arundel County.
Staff

Marie Sokoloff
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Marie Sokoloff has an extensive and successful background in youth sports and business management. She previously served as the Executive Director for the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association for eight years. She is recognized for her innovative approach to solving complex challenges and her proven track record for driving substantial growth.
Marie also has considerable knowledge, having served on multiple nonprofit Boards. She has traveled all over the world, but now considers Maryland her home. If Marie is not playing tennis, she is watching football, soccer or boating. Marie resides in Arnold with her husband, Alan and their two labs, Traxx and Gunner.

Juan Rodriguez
HEAD COACH
Born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, Juan started playing tennis at an early age with his father. At 13, he began to take the sport more seriously and trained with Jaime Cortes, a former ATP top 200 singles player, and Patrick Fara. Upon moving to the United States, Juan has been training and fine tuning his game in the hopes of succeeding at a higher, professional level. He continues to assist Robert Nuscher from Crusher Academy. He completed his PTR certification and is fulfilling his dream of playing and coaching tennis. Juan hopes to share his love, talent and knowledge of the game with anyone who is interested in learning.
